Getting started

Getting Started with GardenDraft

2 min read

Four steps take you from a new account to a garden with planting dates.

1. Create a garden

The first time you sign in, GardenDraft asks where to start:

  • A starter bed gives you a bed with the plants already placed. You can move, swap, or remove any of them.
  • Start from scratch gives you one empty 4′ × 8′ raised bed.

Pick one and click Create my garden. You land in the planner.

2. Add a bed

Your garden starts with one bed. To add another, open the Layout tab, click + New bed, and set its type, shape, and size. How to design your first garden bed covers the options. To add another ready-made layout instead, click Add a starter bed.

3. Add plants

  1. Open the Plant tab.
  2. Pick a plant from the palette.
  3. Tap the bed where you want it.

The plant stays picked after you place it, so tap empty soil again to add another. Tap Cancel (or press Esc) when you're done; tapping a plant already in the bed also stops placing and selects it. More in How to place, move, and space plants.

4. Add your ZIP

Planting dates come from your local frost dates, so GardenDraft needs your ZIP code. Type it into the Add your ZIP box in the planner, or go to Settings → Location. Your calendar and tasks fill in from there. See How GardenDraft sets your frost dates.
